Kathmandu- Prem Prasad Sanjel, head of the Labor and Employment Office, Biratnagar, has been beaten in the office. Undersecretary Sanjeel, who has been speaking out against corruption, was beaten in the office at around 11 am on Saturday.
Police have arrested two employees on the charge of being involved in the beating. Police have arrested Netra Bhattarai and Sapkota Koirala.
Morang Police Chief SP Santosh Khadka said that the head of the labor office was attacked after a dispute arose over the work of the office.
According to the police, the two attacked him with a bundle of paper weight, slippers, nail cutter and punching machine. Both are contract employees of the office. APC Khadka informed that the investigation into the incident has been started by taking those involved in the beating under control.
According to Labor Office sources, Sanjel had fired Deputy Subba Nirmal Kumar Dahal on Friday.
Among those involved in Dahal’s beating is Netra Bhattarai’s (Niraula) sister-in-law. A few days ago, the water pump of the office was also stolen. After the car was stolen and the office supplies were not secured, Sanjel had assigned two of the four contracted office assistants on duty 24 hours a day.
An employee said that he was angry with the office assistant Sanjel saying that the female employee was on duty for 24 hours. ‘After the sister-in-law was fired from her job and she was put on duty for 24 hours, she became very angry with Sanjeel’, he said.
According to the police, Sanjel was attacked with slippers after entering the office saying that he had to discuss the same issue.
