KATHMANDU: The new folk song ‘Badla Bari Lai’ directed by singer Prakash Saput has reached the top spot of YouTube trending last Saturday.
Devi Gharti sang the song composed with Prakash’s words and music. The video features actress Keki Adhikari. Devendra Bablu is its concept and creative director.
The video of this song made on a sensitive subject like rape is the story of a woman who dreams of becoming a singer. She was raped and eventually killed.
The song has raised questions about the declining incidence of rape and weak laws in the society.
The words of the song satirize the justice system of Nepali society and say that the door of justice has never been opened by the chest of the poor.
Rapists who say they are ‘friends’ with big men and see women as ‘toys’ are roaming the society openly. The video shows the victim taking revenge by becoming a ‘ghost’ when he did not get peace after he did not get justice.
“We have tried to show the growing issue of rape in the society through this video,” said director Prakash Saput.
The video stars Dhruv Koirala, Hiuwala Gautam, Arjun Acharya, Badr Kanwar and Sandhya Gautam Baral along with Keki. Singer Devi has been voiced by Smriti Shahi and Sunitami Pariyar in the chorus.
Like Prakash’s touching song ‘Bol Maya’, the video of ‘Badla Bari Lai’ is also touching.
