Chemical fertiliser factory possible in Nepal, concludes ministry

Kathmandu- A task force commissioned by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has concluded that establishing a chemical fertiliser factory within Nepal is possible.

However, the team says further study and preparations are needed before establishing the factory. Further, concerned stakeholders and experts should be consulted about other technical and financial issues, according to the team.

The task force has suggested a hybrid technology mixing biomass gasification and hydropower for fertiliser production as the country is expecting a significant increase in hydropower generation soon.

The ministry had formed a team to study the possibility of such a plant as the country felt an acute fertiliser crisis almost every year.

The team led by Agriculture Secretary Rajendra Prasad Bhari submitted its report to Minister Ghana Shyam Bhusal on Thursday.

Receiving the report, Bhusal said the government would now consider suggestions of the team and establish a fertiliser plant as soon as possible.
