Minister proposes separate force for airport security

Kathmandu– Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Yogesh Bhattarai has proposed establishing a separate force for the security of airports in Nepal.

Bhattarai says he has already begun consultations with concerned ministries and security agencies for the establishment of the airport security police.

Inaugurating the residential building for police personnel at the Tribhuvan International Airport on Tuesday, Bhattarai said the separate force was essential to address security sensitiveness of the airports.

He was of the view that such a force could control the illegal movement of international criminals via airports, stressing special training should also be provided for the personnel.
