The Ministry of Foreign Affairs made public a report highlighting its achievements of the past year, on Sunday.

In the report, the government has claimed it improved ties with both neighbours, India and China.

Point-wise, these are highlights of the achievements claimed by the ministry:

The new political map

  • An integrated document on the country’s foreign policy
  • Works related to Nepal-India border demarcation advanced
  • A cross-border petroleum pipeline and integrated customs check-posts
  • Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Nepal visit and significant achievements with ChinaMore intense engagements with development partners and other organisations
  • Bilateral consulting mechanisms formed with France, Norway, and the Philippines; meetings of such mechanisms with eight other countries
  • Diplomatic ties established with Saint Lucia and Ghana, making the number of countries with which Nepal has the ties 168
  • Various programmes organised in Australia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Siberia on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties
  • Active participation in the United Nations, the Non-aligned Movement, G77, and the World Trade Organisation
  • Active participation in the SAARC, BIMSTEC, SCAO, and ACD
  • Participation in UN peacekeeping missions continued
  • Active role in global human rights promotion as a member of the UN Human Rights Council
  • Effective consular services to migrant workers in various countries in the wake of the Covid-19 crisis
  • Facilitation of migrant workers’ return
  • Leadership and active engagement in the Colombo Process for the protection of concerns of Asian countries are sources to migrant workers
  • A significant role in the protection of migrant workers as a deputy member of the ILO
  • Appointment as a border member of WTO’s Enhanced Integrated Framework
  • Appointment as the Second Committee chair of the UNGA
  • Appointment as a member of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs
  • Preparation of the groundwork to host Sagarmatha Sambaad
